Nursery Curriculum
The Nursery Curriculum
Pre-School Education is a play-based curriculum, structured across six Areas of Learning:
-
Personal, Social & Emotional Development;
-
Physical Development;
-
Language Development;
-
Early Mathematical Experiences;
-
The Arts;
-
The World Around Us.
The curriculum aims to nurture the whole child, fostering their emotional, social, physical, creative, and intellectual growth. It seeks to build self-esteem, self-control, and positive relationships; develop language and communication skills for sharing thoughts and feelings; and cultivate confident, curious learners with a resilient, problem-solving attitude.
Central to this curriculum are key principles that guide effective practice. Children should learn in safe, responsive, and stimulating environments, supported by caring adults. The framework emphasizes a broad and balanced curriculum, grounded in play, that is responsive to each child's pace and prior experience. It values opportunities for sustained involvement, decision-making, problem-solving, and concentration. Additionally, the curriculum endorses flexible planning, rooted in observation and assessment, and fosters strong partnerships with parents and other professionals.
