Early Mathematical Development

Children learn and explore mathematical concepts holistically throughout every area of the nursery curriculum. At Holy Cross, we intentionally create opportunities for children to develop and use mathematical language, revisiting ideas in meaningful and varied contexts. Through play and exploration, children build an understanding of number, shape, size, quantity, pattern, sequencing and time.

We further nurture these skills by providing rich experiences that encourage sorting, matching, comparing, classifying and counting. These early mathematical foundations support children in developing confidence, curiosity and a deep awareness of how maths is woven into their everyday world.
