Physical Development

Physical development supports the growth of both gross and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills include running, jumping, climbing, skipping, hopping, kicking and throwing. These movements help children develop balance, control, coordination and an understanding of size, space and direction. Outdoor play offers valuable opportunities for children to practise and refine these skills in a spacious and stimulating environment.

Fine motor skills—such as grasping, screwing, pinching, picking, cutting and threading—are equally important, as they contribute to the development of hand–eye coordination and support children in carrying out more precise movements. Together, these skills form the foundation for confident physical development and future learning.
